GF82.61-P-3011PJ Route Calculation, Function

MODELS 203 up to 23.4.04
- with CODE (352a) COMAND operating and display system
- with CODE (498) Japanese version

After entering the destination on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), the route is calculated and constantly updated by the integrated navigation processor. This can only be calculated within the digitalized map areas. The calculated route is the prerequisite of the destination guidance system. Route calculation is performed directly after entering the destination.
The navigation processor uses the Digital Versatile Disk (DVD) map data to calculate the entered destination and the current position of the route. It takes roads and attributes, such as one-way streets, turning prohibitions, road classes, etc. (insofar as these are available), which are read from the DVD map, into consideration during calculation. Here, it is possible for the operator to indicate how the route is to be calculated.

There are four 4 options available at all times and simultaneously for route calculation:
- Recommended route
- Shortest route
- Toll roads preferred
- Avoid toll roads

In addition to this a comparison table is compiled for all 4 routes about distance and costs.

Intermediate destinations
It is possible to choose from up to 3 intermediate destinations when selecting the desired route. The list contains prominent points (filling stations, motels, yards, etc.).

When the "Dynamic route" is selected, a traffic data memory, integrated into the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), is used to store received traffic messages; these are then automatically taken into consideration when calculating the route. The best time for the route is then calculated. Notification that the route has been recalculated taking traffic messages into consideration, is provided. The navigation processor in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) then makes up a list of the streets and junctions to be driven following route calculation. This route list is used for destination guidance. It can be displayed by calling up the "Traffic information" menu (Traffic Information (TI)).

Route updating
When the driver deviates from the calculated route, a new route list is calculated by the navigation processor. The current position and the direction of travel are taken into consideration. The new route is optimized accordingly. A "New Route" message appears on the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and "NEW RTE" appears on the instrument cluster (A1).
