TELE AID Universe And Scope Of Retrofit (Analog-To-Digital Upgrade):
The following table shows the part numbers from the old analog generation of TELE AID units and to what units the Digital Retrofit solution is available.

This installation, and any subsequent related installation and/or workmanship issues, cannot be claimed under warranty.

Retrofit Process

The retrofitting of analog Tele Aid with digital Tele Aid can be done through DAS tool in the following two ways:
- Automatic takeover of settings from the analog unit
- Manual programming of the new digital unit.

DAS release DVD 9 at least is needed to support the retrofit Tele Aid.
The following is a work flow chart which explains the retrofitting process in both the automatic and the manual way in all the car models

Physical operations that need to be done in the retrofitting process differ from each car model and are explained in separate retrofit documents for each specific car model. Please refer the appropriate Vehicle Model Retrofit documents for instructions on the physical operations of the retrofitting process. The following sections describe the DAS operations which is same for every car model except minor differences between the CP Digital and the ECALL2 Digital unit installations.

Start DAS Tool:
Plug in the OBD connector of the DAS tool to the appropriate OBD port of the car. Start the DAS tool, and follow the path
Cars->Class Selection ->Model Series Selection-> Engine Selection ->Main Groups->Control Units->Information and Communication ->Tele Aid

Select "Control unit version" and check the part number of the existing Tele Aid to decide whether the Tele Aid is fit for retrofitting from the table in the section "Tele Aid universe and scope of retrofit".

If fit for retrofit then select Initial Start-up menu to start the retrofit process. The Initial Start-up menu has the menu items for the automatic and manual retrofit processes.

The first two items of the menu support any replacement from an analog to a digital unit or from a digital to a digital unit (if the installed digital unit is defective).

The other two menu items support the activation and deactivation of the digital units.

Initial Start-up with Manual Settings input for New Control Unit.
This menu item of the Initial start-up is selected in case it is needed to manually version code the digital unit. Please refer to appropriate Vehicle Model Retrofit documents to see the procedure to "Unplug Analog unit" and then to "Plug Digital Unit". Please write down the ESN number of the analog unit from the label of the unit or through DAS before removal of the analog unit.

Select the manual settings input option in the initial start-up menu and the DAS tool guides for the manual retrofit process as in the following screen shots.

On the pressing of the F2 button, the VIN number is programmed into the unit automatically and then the following screen appears for manually programming the Model Series and the airbag

On the pressing of the F2 button, it leads to a screen where the Model Series and the corresponding airbag can be selected.

For selection of airbag please refer the text on the left of the airbag pull down menu where the airbag installed in each Model Series is listed. On the pressing of the F5 button, the model series and the airbag are programmed into the unit. In the case of CP Digital in addition to the Model Series and airbag, the system configuration for the CTEL Portable Holder also needs to be set. Following this, the DAS tool asks questions whether the customer is an existing subscriber or a new subscriber.

* NOTE:
The process automatically sets the volume at level five. Adjust standard volume settings any time via path: TeleAid > Control Unit Adaptations.*

Depending on the answers, it guides to the appropriate registration procedure and activation process with the service provider. Go to the section "Registration Procedure and Activation Process" of this document to see details on this.

Initial Start-up with Automatic Take over of settings from previous control unit:
This menu item of the initial start-up is selected in case the settings in the original unit have to be taken over to the new unit automatically. Select this option in the initial start up menu and the DAS tool guides automatically for the retrofit process as in the following screen shots.

Reading of Settings from Analog Unit:
Upon starting the process of automatic takeover, the settings in the analog unit are read. The next screen shot shows the case of an analog replaced with digital. In digital to digital replacement only a few parameters are read.

After the reading of the settings, the DAS tool instructs to do the physical replacement of the analog unit with the digital unit. Please refer to appropriate Retrofit Vehicle Model documents.

On Ignition ON, after reading the configuration of the new unit, the DAS tool programs the parameters automatically into the digital unit.

In the case of CP Digital, in addition to the Model Series, airbag and VIN, the system configuration for CTEL Portable Holder is also programmed.

* NOTE:
Adjust standard volume settings any time via TeleAid > Control Unit Adaptations.*

On the pressing of the F2 button, the DAS tool guides to the registration procedure and activation process with the service provider as described in the next section.

Registration Procedure and Activation Process:
This process starts after the programming of the Model Series and the airbag either automatically or manually.

The "Registration with ATX" screen contains the set of the steps to be followed for registration and activation of the digital unit. Please take a printout of this screen and then take a printout of the "TELE AID Digital Retrofit Form" by pressing F4. After taking these printouts, press F3 to proceed with the Initial Start Up process.

* NOTE:
Use the "TELE AID Digital Retrofit Form", NOT the Digital TELE AID Form.*

NOTE:
TELE AID Digital Retrofit form is unique and it is different to the LCT TELE AID form and only Retrofit form has to be used for Retrofit.

On the pressing of the F3 button, the fault codes of the new unit are erased, and then the retrofit process ends with the documentation screen for the repair order as shown below.

Now follow the steps one by one as listed on the printout for the "Registration with ATX" screen.

- Fill out the Digital Tele Aid Retrofit form using the printout as specified in the registration screen. The registration screen also contains the "ESN" (Electronic Serial Numbers) of the original unit and the new unit when using automatic takeover and the "ESN" of the new unit when using the Manual Settings input option. These details are required for filling out the "Original Unit" and "New Unit Information".
- All subscribers have to fill out a new retrofit subscriber agreement. The new subscriber agreement includes information about the different service packages. All the filled out paperwork has to be sent to the ATX fax number as specified. In order to complete the activation of the unit ATX needs both the Digital Tele Aid Retrofit form and the new subscriber agreement.

- ATX will process the paper work and respond back via fax with the needed activation information on it in less than 60 minutes.
- While waiting for the response fax from ATX, please perform the following steps:

- Perform self test of the Tele Aid and double check whether there are any active fault codes. In case of CP Digital, the below screen for reading of fault codes is different as it will also contain the menu items for reading of fault codes from virtual devices like ECALL, Info/Road side assistance call, Tracking etc.

- Please check the fault codes of the airbag module and erase the fault code "Fault in communication with the Tele Aid control module or there is a cable fault" if present. Use the path below.
Cars->Class Selection ->Model Series Selection-> Engine Selection -> Main Groups-> Control Units->Body ->Air Bag-> Fault Codes.

- Manually check and correct the variant coding of some external devices for Tele Aid functions for proper functioning of all the Tele Aid features. This variant coding check is available as one of the guided tests for Tele Aid in the "List of Guided Tests" menu.

The PDF file can be opened upon pressing the F2 button, and the following table is displayed. The table lists all possible vehicle models along with the Model year information for retrofitting the Tele Aid. For each vehicle model, the listed electronic control units needs to be accessed through the DAS tool and Tele Aid variant coding has to be enabled (if in disabled state) for appropriate model years of the vehicle model shown in the table.

- In case of CP Digital cars with the CTEL Portable holder set as fitted the Head Unit (HU) and the Audio Gate Way (AGW) software have to be updated to the latest available. The AGW can be updated through DAS. The tool compares the version of software in the ECU with the latest official version in DAS and updates only when necessary. For HU software update, insert the latest DVD, and the software updates only if it detects that the original software version is older.

- The unit becomes activated only after receiving the fax back from ATX. Only after receiving the fax, proceed with the 3-button procedure. The 3 button procedure involves the pressing and holding of the info button, road side assistance button, and the SOS button together for about 5 seconds until the button LEDs are flashing. The audio in the car is muted and a network announcement that the phone is being programmed is heard. After a few of the same announcements, it finishes, and the audio of the car comes up again. This indicates the 3 button procedure is successful. In case nothing is heard, or if the network announcement indicates that the programming of the phone could not be carried out, then it indicates that the 3 button procedure is not successful. Please try this 3 button procedure again at least 3 times until it becomes successful. If the 3 button procedure is not successful at all in all the tries, please refer to section "Activation of TELE AID and Registration with ATX" for more details.

- After successfully completing the 3 button procedure, perform a reset of the TELE AID through control unit Adaptations-> Control Module Reset.

- Perform an MB-Info call and request the operator for provisioning of the unit. If this MB-Info call does not go through, please refer to section "Activation of TELE AID and Registration with ATX" for more details.

Activation of TELE AID and Registration with ATX:
This section guides to activate the TELE AID in case there are problems in the 3 button procedure or if there is a need for reactivation of the TELE AID after a deactivation. The workflow for this process is as below.

Connect the Star Diagnosis tool and follow the path Cars->Class Selection ->Model Series Selection-> Engine Selection ->Main Groups->Control Units->Information and Communication ->Tele Aid-> Initial Start Up.

Select the option "Activation of TELE AID and registration with ATX".

The above screen provides options to either automatically activate the Tele Aid through the 3 button procedure or to manually activate the Tele Aid through the DAS. The automatic activation process through F3 gives the same set of steps for 3 buttons procedure as explained in the section "Registration procedure and Activation Process".

Only in case of problems in the 3 button procedure, please proceed to the manual activation of the Tele Aid by pressing the F4 button.

In the above screen, the Home SID, MDN, and the MIN data have to be filled in from the information available in the response fax from ATX as shown below.

On the pressing of the F5 button, a reconfirmation of the parameters is needed, and then the TELE AID is programmed with these network parameters and gets activated.

* Explanation of the 3-button-press process:*

*Perform the 3 button press after the activation confirmation form is received via fax form ATX.*

*The 3 buttons will begin blinking after they are pressed a minimum of 5 seconds. Tele Aid will then download the assigned information over the air. This process will succeed only in areas with Verizon Wireless (VZW) Digital coverage.*

*The VZW standard network announcement for the 3 button press (the content of this announcement could change in the future) is: "Welcome to over the air programming. Please wait while we program your phone. This call is air time free. Para espanol pulse dos". The process takes approximately one minute, during which another warning message may sound stating: "Please continue to hold while your phone is being programmed".

*Once the process is complete, the call simply drops. There is no message confirming if the download was successful.*

*To check if the download was successful, follow path:*
Cars > Class Selection > Model Series Selection > Engine Selection > Main Groups > Control Units > Information and Communication > TeleAid

*Compare the following information fields before and after the 3 button press.*

*By default (factory settings) a new Digital Retrofit unit has no assigned MIN, MDN, or Home_SID:*

* After the 3 button press, you will see the information fields had changed. The information fields must match the numbers provided by ATX.*

* In some cases, it may be necessary to repeat the 3-button-press process two or three times to hear the network announcements.*

* There may be cases when the 3 button press is unsuccessful because of network deficiencies. This causes the acquaintance call and/or service calls to be received by the service operator (ATX) as an error account. Hence, ATX will be unable to identify the new account or caller in such cases.*

*If this situation occurs, deactivate Tele Aid (Follow the steps outlined below under ("Deactivation Process").*

* NOTE:
Deactivating Tele Aid requires the vehicle information be manually entered via Star Diagnosis. Since it is the same Tele Aid control module, it is not necessary to fax ATX another activation form.*

*Once Tele Aid is deactivated and restored to factory default settings, restart Star Diagnosis and manually code Tele Aid under Initial Start-up or Control Unit Adaptations by following path:

Control Units > Information and Communition > Audio, Video, navigation, and telematics > TELE AID > Initial Start-up or Control unit adaptations.*

*Close Star Diagnosis and perform a 3 button press. Mute the audio and listen for a network announcement about programming.*

*With the programming complete and the vehicle outdoors with the ignition on for approximately 15 minutes, place the acquaintance call by pressing the I-Button and asking the service operator if they had received the customer and vehicle information. Tele Aid will process the satellite GPS information before transmitting it to the service operator.*

Deactivation Process:
This process is needed in case any active customer decides to deactivate the digital Tele Aid. The workflow for this process is as below.

Follow the path Cars->Class Selection ->Model Series Selection-> Engine Selection ->Main Groups->Control Units->Information and Communication ->Tele Aid-> Initial Start Up.

Select the option to deactivate the Tele Aid.

Take a printout of this screen and also the TELE AID Digital Retrofit Form (F4) and then press F5 on the above screen which leads to the deactivation of the Tele Aid.

Fill out the TELE AID Digital Retrofit form as specified in the screen and send it via fax to ATX.
