Function prerequisites:
- Circuit 15R ON
- Engine hood and front doors closed

Operating procedure
- The intermittent wiping function can be switched on by turning the combination switch (S4) to position "I".
- The position of the combination switch (S4) is read by the EIS control unit (N73) or the steering column module (N80) and is relayed as a message to the CAN-B.
- The front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) receives this message and triggers a wiping cycle (if the wipers were already in motion, this wiping operation is first completed).
- After a wiping cycle the wiper motor (M6/1) is braked.
- The intermittent pause is started.
- After expiration, the intermittent pause of the next wiping operation is started.

Control of wiper motor
The front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) actuates the wiper motor (M6/1) via the wiper stage 1 and 2 relay (N10/1kL) and the wiper ON/OFF relay (N10/1kQ) so that the wipers are operating in speed 1.

Interruption of intermittent pause
If another wiper function is requested during an intermittent pause, this function is executed without taking the intermittent pause into consideration. After completion of this function, the intermittent pause is started again.

Intermittent pause function on vehicles without code (345a) rain sensor
Regardless of the wetting degree the intermittent pause time is approx. 5 s

Intermittent pause function on vehicles with code (345a) rain sensor
The intermittent pause is dependent on the degree of wetting of the windshield. In order to achieve this, the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) evaluates the data from the rain sensor (B38) or the rain/light sensor (B38/2).

The data exchange between the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) and the rain sensor (B38) or the rain/light sensor (B38/2) takes place via the CAN-B. The overhead control panel control unit (N70) serves as interface.
If the rain sensor (B38) or the rain/light sensor (B38/2) fail, then the intermittent time is set to approx. 5 s.
