Wiper Motor Arrangement/Purpose/Design/Function

Position
The wiper motor is beneath the water collector.

Task
To drive the windshield wipers at two speed settings.
Exact wiper end position.

Design
The front windshield wiper drive consists of an electric motor with three brushes and a gearbox and a cam switch on the driving axle.

The wiper motor (M6/1) consists of the motor and gearbox with cam switch components:

Motor:
This motor is a DC motor with three brushes.
The motor operates at a different speed depending on which brush pair is being powered.
The motor is powered by two relays.

Cam switch
The cam switch is closed when the motor is in park position. At the beginning of each wiper cycle the cam switch is opened and closed when the home position is reached. This is how the term. 31b signal is produced.

The connected control module can detect the following via the term. 31b signal:
- whether the motor is working correctly,
- whether the motor is blocked,
- whether the motor is in the home position.
