GF82.95-P-3001QU Selecting Telephone Antenna, Function
- with CODE (349) E Call emergency call system

For normal telephone calls, the call is handled via the CTEL antenna (A2/22).

The telephone antenna (A2/22) may be destroyed in the event of an accident (e.g. rollover). As a result it would likewise not be possible to make an emergency call. In order to prevent this in each case, the emergency call system left backup antenna (A2/54) and emergency call system right backup antenna (A2/55) are installed in addition to the telephone antenna.

These are installed in the vents under the rear bumper in a manner which is largely safe in crashes and they are only used if required.
As long as no emergency call is triggered, the CTEL antenna (A2/22) is always active. In the event of an emergency call the E-Call control unit (A35/8) checks the signal level of the telephone antenna (A2/22), the emergency call system left backup antenna (A2/54) and emergency call system right backup antenna (A2/55). Depending on the result the E-CALL control unit (A35/8) then switches over to the "better" antenna and transmits the emergency call.
