GF82.95-P-0003QU Emergency Call (E-call), Function
- with CODE (349) E-Call emergency call system

Emergency call, general
Emergency call (E-Call) is an automatic emergency call system which uses the availability of new technologies, such as vehicle locating via satellite and telephone, to minimize the consequences of accident.
The emergency call report as well as the exact description of the location are made possible with E-Call, irrespective of human error in stress situations.

Operating procedure
An E-Call emergency call can be triggered automatically or manually. The following actuation procedures should be distinguished:

Type of triggering, automatic:
^ Restraint systems control unit (N2/7)
^ E-call control unit (A35/8) with integral tilting cone sensor (B66)

Type of triggering, manual:
^ By pressing the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3)

If an alarm is triggered, an emergency call telegram is put together by the E-call control unit (A35/8) which contains information on the severity of the accident, on the identification of the vehicle, the vehicle position and on the type of alarm triggering. The emergency call telegram is transmitted via the vehicle's telephone equipment.
In the event of a defective telephone antenna (A2/22) the system automatically changes over to the emergency call system left backup antenna (A2/54) or emergency call system right backup antenna (A2/55).

When the connection to the person involved in the accident is successfully completed, an emergency call (telephone voice connection) is passed on to the rescue headquarters responsible (police, fire department etc.).

Then a voice connection (via telephone) is completed from the vehicle to the rescue service. The necessary help measures are introduced as a result of this.

When initially started the system performs an authorization. An Emergency-Call emergency call cannot be made without authorization. The Emergency-Call emergency call system does not function in the absence of authorization.

The system is comprised of:
^ D2B-capable vehicle equipment
^ mobile phone network (AMPS)
^ handset
^ emergency call center
^ telephone antenna (A2/22)
^ emergency call system left backup antenna (A2/54)
^ A2/55 emergency call system right backup antenna

AMPS network
The emergency call is directed to the emergency call center via the AMPS mobile network.

The vehicle equipment consists of the following components:
^ Localizing system integrated in the E-call control unit (A35/8) (GPS [global positioning system] receiver)
^ Tilting cone sensor (B66) integrated in the E-call control unit (A35/8) B66)
^ Car phone (AMPS module in control unit)
^ Existing vehicle sensors (crash sensor, wheel rpm sensors)
^ SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3)
