GF82.85-P-2012QMJ Navigation Mode, Function
- with CODE (498) Japanese version

The position of the vehicle, and the direction and distance to the destination (based on destination entered) are determined by the navigation system of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). Navigation to the destination then begins. The navigation processor integrated in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), in combination with the digital versatile disk (DVD) ROM drive, is activated by pressing the "NAVI" button on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The navigation processor reads the digital map data from the navigation DVD inserted in the DVD drive.

Destination entry
The user enters the destination using menus on the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

Only destinations that can be found on the navigation DVD can be entered. The user can enter the destination in several ways. The destination can be selected via:
^ Map
^ Special destinations
^ Destination memory
^ Postal code
^ Last 10 destinations entered
^ Entry using Hiragana (Japanese syllabic writing)
^ Address selection from lists (e.g. towns, districts)

Dynamic supplementation
Dynamic supplementation comes into play when the user enters the destination manually. While entering a destination the letters which are still missing are completed from an existing list. The supplemented characters have a black background. The user can delete characters individually (character by character).

Position finding
The navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) continuously calculates the current position of the vehicle with the help of the localizing system.

Route calculation
The route is calculated in the navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) after destination input or automatically after a deviation from the proposed route.

Navigation
Navigation begins once the navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) has calculated the route. With the dynamic navigation system, the route calculation is influenced automatically by incorporating traffic information.
