General
The overhead control panel control unit (N70) is connected to the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) for exchanging data.

The overhead control panel (OCP) control unit (N70) has the following tasks:

Control of the interior lights (IBL) and the following components
^ Ambient lamp (A67e3) (as of 1.12.04)
^ Entrance and exit lamp in left door (E17/3)
^ Right door entrance/exit lamp (E17/4)
^ Front dome lamp (N70e1)
^ Left front reading lamp (N70e2)
^ Right front reading lamp (N70e3)

Voltage supply for the following components
^ Left front vanity mirror illumination (E14/1).
^ Right vanity mirror illumination (E14/2)
^ Interior motion sensor transmitter and receiver (A26/14) and interior motion sensor transmitter and receiver (slave) (A26/15) (for vehicles with code (882) Interior monitoring (with ATA only)
^ In-car temperature sensor (N70b1) as of 1.6.05
^ Rain/light sensor (B38/2)
^ Inside rearview mirror unit (A67)

Reading in of external switches
^ Left soft top limit switch locked, (S84/11)
^ Soft top limit switch in catch position (S84/18)

Reading in of integrated switches
^ Dome lamp switch (N70s3)
^ Left front reading lamp switch (N70s6)
^ Right front reading lamp switch (N70s7)

In United States of America vehicles, the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) is installed in the overhead control panel control unit (N70). However, actuation is performed by the emergency call system control unit (N123/4).
