The emergency opening feature is actuated following an accident by a signal (crash signal), unlocking all doors and the tailgate.

Function prerequisites
^ All unlocking functions must be maintained

Function of emergency opening feature
From the time the crash signal is received, all locking functions as well as relocking and automatic locking are disabled for 10 s. The crash signal terminates all relocking operations in progress. 10 s after receiving the crash signal, all locking functions are enabled with the exception of automatic locking.

Automatic locking is enabled by the EIS control module (N73) only when one of the following conditions is fulfilled:

^ Circuit 15 OFF for at least 2 s and then circuit 15 ON
^ Inner central locking switch (N72/1s6) actuated

The "Emergency opening" function has priority over all other consumers and functions. Unlocking must be accomplished to conclusion even in the face of contradictory commands from other control points.

Actuation time
After receiving the signal (crash signal), an emergency opening operation is started. The crash signal is recognized in the rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and restraint system control module (N2/7) and transferred to the CAN class B bus. All vehicle doors are unlocked after a waiting time of 8 to 11 s. The exterior trunk lid actuation switch (S88/8) (with non-active switch for 90° position) and open trunk lid switch (S20/1s6) are enabled. Parallel to this, the hazard warning system is activated.

Only a crash signal from the rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2) or restraint system control module (N2/7) is required for emergency opening.

Activation of the emergency opening function by:
^ unlocking vehicle from outside
^ switching on circuit 15 R
^ switching on circuit 15

Deactivation of emergency opening function by:
^ locking vehicle from outside
^ switching off circuit 15
^ switching off circuit 15 R
