Disconnecting and connecting engine wiring harness

DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from hydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury) to eyes and skin suffering caustic burns from battery electrolyte or from contact with damaged lead add batteries.
- No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.



1 Disconnect ground cable of battery

CAUTION: Model 209: Do not connect a quiescent current retention unit, otherwise this may cause damage to the control module.


2 Detach cover via positive pole (1) at battery.
3 Disconnect positive terminal (1) at the battery.
4 Open cover of terminal block (2).
5 Disconnect positive cable (3) at cable connector (2).
6 Detach top rubber seal (4) from right splash wall.
7 Unlock top left and right plastic guide (5) and pull out with positive lead (3) and place to the side.
8 Remove cover via cover of fuse, relay box (6).
9 Remove cover of fuse and relay box (6).

NOTE: Installation: Check rubber seal in the cover, replace if necessary. Cover must be located in the groove at the rear.

10 Separate connectors of motor electronics control module (n3/10) in fuse and relay box.
11 Separate connectors of front SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/1) in fuse and relay box.
12 Separate connector of separation point module housing/engine (6a) in fuse and relay box.
13 Detach top rubber seal (7) from left splash wall.
14 Pull wiring loom (9) out of fuse and relay box.

NOTE: Installation: Ensure proper seating of the rubber seal (10).

15 Pull out plastic guide (8) with wire harness (9).
16 Remove engine compartment paneling.
17 Separate left 02 sensor connector, upstream of TWC (G3/302x1) 02 and right 02 sensor connector, upstream of TWC (G3/4x1).

NOTE: Push the connectors out of the holders for this step.

18 Separate left 02 sensor connector, downstream TWC (G3/502x1) 02and right 02 sensor connector, downstream TWC (G3/6x1).

NOTE: Push the connectors out of the holders for this step.

19 Take off shield (11) for connector of automated manual transmission, 18-pin (X22/17).
- On vehicles with Transmission 722.6.

20 Take off connector of automated manual transmission, 18-pin (X22/17).
- On vehicles with Transmission 722.6.

NOTE: Installation: Check O-ring for connector of automated manual transmission, 18-pin (X22/17), replace if necessary.


21 Dismount ground transmission (W49)

NOTE: Installation: Model 203 without 4MATIC, Model 209.

22 Separate connector of automated manual transmission, 2-pin (X22/18).
- On vehicles with Transmission 716.6.

23 Install in the reverse order.
24 Perform basic programming.
25 Read out fault memory with STAR DIAGNOSIS and erase if necessary.
