Y58/4 Activated charcoal canister shutoff valve

The activated charcoal filter shutoff valve is located above on the activated charcoal canister, in the wheelhouse at the left rear.

Task
The activated charcoal filter shutoff valve closes off ventilation / venting of the activated charcoal canister to allow a leaktightness test on the fuel system (leak test).

Design
The activated charcoal filter shutoff valve consists of a solenoid which closes the activated charcoal filter shutoff valve when gases are flowing.
Additionally a mechanical safety valve is installed.

Function
The activated charcoal canister shutoff valve is actuated at the ground end by the ME control unit (N3/10) to conduct a leak test.
If the activated charcoal canister shutoff valve is faulty (the valve does not open anymore) then a mechanical safety valve takes over aeration of the activated charcoal canister (from about -25 mbar).
