Gear display (A1p12) in instrument cluster (A1):
The display indicates the currently engaged gear with the symbol: "1", "2", "3", "4", "5", "6", "R" or the neutral position with the symbol "N". The display "0" appears if a gearshift is made while the vehicle is stationary without depressing the brake pedal. When the brake pedal has been depressed, the symbol "N" is displayed. When the operator selects the automatic shift mode, the system responds by displaying the symbol "A".

Permanent system monitoring by the automated manual transmission control module (N15/6) detects any faults occurring. If a detected fault switches the system to limp-home mode, the symbol "F" is displayed in the instrument cluster (A1) and the fault code associated with the fault is stored in the automated manual transmission control module (N15/6).

Safety concept
Input and output signals and the status of the system are constantly monitored by the automated manual transmission control module (N15/6) while driving. If a fault is detected, the system reacts according to the safety concept. This is comprised of emergency strategies, emergency action and safety modes. If a fault occurs in the system, the emergency strategies prevent critical situations for the driver from arising. The system's level of functionality with the engine running is reduced. The driver is still able to reach the nearest workshop.

If several faults occur simultaneously, the panel on the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1) displays the text message for the fault with the highest priority.
