Range, Function
The estimated range is displayed in either miles (top figure) or in kilometers (bottom figure).
The current range is calculated from the quantity of fuel currently available and the average fuel consumption.
The trip computer control module (TRIP, N41) requires the following information to calculate the current range:
The average fuel consumption (via engine compartment CAN from the injection system control module (N3),
The 4 wheel speeds from the traction system control module (N47) via engine compartment CAN,
The quantity of fuel in the fuel tank from the instrument cluster (A1) via the engine compartment CAN.
NOTE: As a result of measuring tolerances and limited resolution when determining the quantity of fuel in the tank, the value displayed for the range may fluctuate by up to approx. 5 miles (approx. 10 kilometers).
If the fuel level in the tank has fallen into the reserve range, the current fuel consumption is taken into account to a greater extent when calculating the range.
In addition, the distance to empty (in kilometers) flashes in the reserve range of the display (e.g."56.0 km"). The "FUEL" display flashes if the display is set to display miles.
NOTE: The reserve range here may differ slightly from the reserve range of the fuel display in the instrument cluster (A1).
