GF54.30-P-3022R Displaying Mileage, Function
Component Identification:
Calculation of mileage
The mileage is calculated in the instrument cluster (A1) using the vehicle speed (integration according to time).
^ Estimation of mileage
To estimate the mileage and the vehicle speed, the processor in the instrument cluster (A1) evaluates the wheel speed signals from the
- Left front wheel speed sensor (L6/1)
- Right front wheel speed sensor (L6/2)
- Left rear wheel speed sensor (L6/3)
- Right rear wheel speed sensor (L6/4)
^ The instrument cluster (A1) receives the wheel speeds in rpm over the engine compartment CAN from the SBC control module (A7/3n1) ESP, SPS and BAS control via the module (N47-5).
^ The tire size is taken into account when calculating the mileage and the vehicle speed. The tire size is encoded using the STAR Diagnosis tool.
Refer to the document entitled "Displaying speed, function" for evaluation of the wheel speed signals.
Displaying the total mileage
^ The total mileage is displayed as a 6-figure number on the main screen of the left multifunction display (A1p13) in kilometers or miles as soon as the instrument cluster (A1) is activated.
^ The range for the total mileage odometer is from 0 to 999999 kilometers or miles.
If the maximum mileage is reached, the counter is not reset to 0. In this case the instrument cluster (A1) must be replaced.
Displaying the trip mileage
^ The trip mileage is displayed as a 5-figure number on the main screen of the left multifunction display (A1p13) in kilometers or miles as soon as the instrument cluster (A1) is activated.
^ The range for the trip mileage odometer is from 0 to 9999.9 kilometers or miles. When the maximum mileage is reached, the display is reset to 0.
Resetting the trip odometer
The trip odometer is reset to 0 by pressing the instrument illumination dimmer and reset button (A1r1).
Requirements:
^ The instrument cluster (A1) is activated and
^ The left multifunction display (A1p13) is showing the main screen (total and trip mileage).
Kilometers/miles switchover
The mileage display can be switched over from kilometers to miles by means of the Settings function.
If implausible CAN messages are received for all wheel speed signals, the total and trip mileage displays are "frozen" and an error bit is set. The current reading on the total mileage odometer is also relayed onto the interior compartment CAN by the instrument cluster (A1).
Storage of data
The total mileage remains stored for at least 10 years when the battery is disconnected.
The trip mileage is also protected against data loss if the battery is removed for a short period of time.
