GF82.95-P-2003RM Emergency Call Actuation, Function
- with CODE (359) TELE AID emergency call system

If the driver should have an emergency in a remote area, a staff member at the service center can use the data transmitted from the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) to obtain an overview of the status in the vehicle interior and, based on this, take appropriate assistance measures. A Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand (emergency call system) (TELE AID) emergency call can be triggered automatically or manually at any time.

Manual emergency call
A manual emergency call can be placed at any time. A manual emergency call is triggered by pressing the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) (labeled "SOS"). This switch is integrated in the overhead control panel control unit (N70). The actuation of the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) is read in by the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) over a discrete line.

In order to place a manual emergency call, the button must be pressed for more than 0.5 s. An emergency call is then automatically transmitted to the nearest emergency call center. The red LED flashes during the emergency call.

Automatic alarm call
An automatic emergency call can be placed with "circuit 5R ON". A crash is automatically detected by the restraint systems control unit (N2/7). The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) receives this crash information from two sources, once as a digital crash signal over a discrete line from the restraint systems control unit (N2/7), and also (redundant signal) via the Controller Area Network Bus Class B (interior) (CAN-B).

The central gateway control unit (N93) reads the accident data from the CAN-B and sends this data over the diagnosis bus to the emergency call system control unit (N123/4). In the event of an accident, an emergency call is automatically sent. This occurs no matter how severe the detected crash actually is. If a call is triggered by a crash, the red LED flashes during the emergency call. The following data are automatically transmitted in an SMS emergency call:
^ Subscriber identification module (SIM) data
^ Phone number
^ Vehicle data (e.g. circuit status)
^ Crash information (severity of accident), only for an automatic emergency call
^ Position data
^ Vehicle direction and speed

The user can now establish voice communication by telephone with the emergency call center. This call is later ended by the emergency call center. After several unsuccessful attempts to place an emergency call (either manually or automatically), the emergency call function is canceled in the emergency call system control unit (N123/4).

It is only permissible to trigger a TELE AID emergency call in case of an actual emergency. Misuse of the system is punishable offense.
