The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) receives the messages listed below as a digital crash signal from the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) over a discrete line. This information is also sent redundantly over the diagnosis bus from the central gateway control unit (N93). Crash data
Byte No. 1
Byte No. 2
In the event of an accident, an emergency call is automatically sent. This occurs no matter how severe the detected crash actually is.
Error messages
The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) transmits a signal every 500 ms. In this way, the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) is kept informed about proper operation of the crash detection system.
The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) performs a cyclical self. test. In normal operation, when the red LED lights up in the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3), this indicates a system malfunction. A corresponding message appears on screen of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and on the left multifunction display (A1p13) and on the right multifunction display (A1p15) in the instrument cluster (A1). The red LED remains on until circuit 15 is switched off or the cause of the error is remedied. The SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) is also monitored. A stuck SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) is detected. False signals are ignored and the system remains operational.
