Component Identification:
On vehicles as from 1.6.05, it is now possible with the TV tuner to receive both analog and digital television channels via a DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial) receiver.
TV-mode, function
The LCD color display on the COMAND operating, display and control unit is used for television reception. TV tuner actuation and control is also performed using the COMAND operating, display and control unit.
TV reception is activated after pressing the "VIDEO" button in the "TV" submenu. Video signals are sent over a dedicated video line to the COMAND operating, display and control unit. Audio signals are sent via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the audio gateway control unit, where they are amplified and the stored sound settings then converted. The amplified audio signals are then forwarded to the vehicle speakers and emitted there.
The TV tuner is located on the side wall of the luggage compartment.
Analog TV reception function
In the same way the TV tuner receives and processes terrestrial television programs which have been broadcast in all standards. It also globally supports all channel lists and audio standards. The audio quality is limited to MONO.
Digital TV reception function
In addition to reception of analog television channels, the TV tuner with an integrated DVB-T receiver can also receive terrestrial digital television channels via the given antenna structures. The conversion of analog to digital television reception is performed automatically depending on the reception status at any given time. A digital television channel can be recognized by the fact that the station name has a "+" sign appended to it. The audio quality of the audio signals emitted over the vehicle speakers is in stereo.
Search and store station
When in TV mode the stations can be searched for and saved under the following functions:
^ Automatic station search
^ Station search via list of stations
^ Set stations by channel selection
^ Station selection via direct channel entry
^ Station selection from station memory
Up to 10 stations can be stored.
AV mode
2 external devices can be connected to the TV system. The right knob can be used to select the "AV1" or "AV2" menu field.
TV mute, function
The mute function of the audio sources is maintained when it was activated before switching off.
Displaying mute status in the TV screen
When the mute status is selected (muting), a mute symbol is displayed at the right in the LCD color display. To enable the mute status to be displayed in the TV screen, the mute status must be sent with a new command to the TV tuner. The setting which was performed last before switching off the ignition, is adopted when the ignition is switched on again.
Video DVD and MP3 function
The Digital Versatile Disk (DVD)-ROM disk drive of the COMAND operating, display and control unit supports playback of video DVDs. In doing so, the picture is shown on the LCD color display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit, after the "VIDEO" button has been pressed and the "DVD" submenu activated. An MP3 player can be operated in the "AUX" submenu.
For reasons of driving safety, a television or video picture is not displayed when the vehicle is in motion. As from approx. 5 km/h only audio signals can be emitted.
