The trunk lid can be opened or closed automatically via various control points.
The opening and closing operations are accomplished a drive unit located on the left trunk lid hinge
When closing, the trunk lid is closed until the lock arrests A power closing unit then accomplishes the final closing operation of the trunk lid

Control elements:
^ Trunk lid open/close switch, driver (S15/3)
- Open and close trunk lid

^ Trunk lid external operation switch (S88/8)
- Open trunk lid

^ Transmitter key (A8/1)
- Open trunk lid

^ RTC button (S62/26)
- Close trunk lid

^ Trunk lid Keyless go button (S62/21)
- Close trunk lid and then close centrally (only on vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go)

Illumination of control elements
The control elements on the inner trunk lid are illuminated. The illumination is actuated depending on the trunk lighting. The rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2) sends the status of the trunk lighting to the CAN interior compartment and the RTC control module (N121) activates the illumination correspondingly.

Normalizing
It is necessary to normalize the remote trunk closing (RTC) with STAR DIAGNOSIS each time the battery is disconnected

Limit opening angle of trunk lid
A position set at the factory can be activated between the two switch-off positions for opening and closing the trunk. This position can be set as new end position, if required, (maximum opening) to prevent damage to the trunk lid from extending transport objects (ski box, surfboard, etc.).

Switch on and off limited opening angle
The opening angle can be reset with the trunk lid open/close switch, driver (S15/3) by actuating in the "Closing" direction > 5 s when the trunk lid is closed.
If this operation is performed again, the limitation is canceled

There is no "optical or acoustic" feedback indicating that the opening angle has been reset

As of 27.8.03 the opening angle is reset with the control menu in the instrument cluster (A1) and no longer with the trunk lid open/ close switch, driver (S15/3).
