Function requirements
^ Front passenger seat occupied recognized
^ Front passenger seat set to an unfavorable position (e.g., park position)
^ Front passenger seat normalized
^ PRE-SAFE has been activated

Function
Positioning of the front passenger seat is used to move the front passenger into a favorable position in the event of an imminent impact. In this position, the conventional restraint systems can provide the best protective effect possible.

Adjustment of the front passenger seat is coordinated by the front passenger front seat adjustment control unit with memory (N32/2).

Automatic adjustment of the front passenger seat can be interrupted at any time by operating the right front seat adjustment switch group (S92/2). If a PRE-SAFE situation continues to be present, the front passenger seat is adjusted again via PRE-SAFE after the manual adjustment has been completed.
The adjustment time takes until:
- the target area has been reached (seat in optimum position)
- the impact starts
- the PRE-SAFE situation ends

The front passenger seat does not automatically return into the position before the PRE-SAFE situation, but rather it has to be adjusted using the seat adjustment switch group.

Seat adjustment takes place depending upon whether the front passenger is wearing a seat belt or not.

The status of the front passenger seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/4) is forwarded from the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) over the Controller Area Network bus Class B (interior) (CAN-B) and over the central gateway control unit (N93) to the front passenger front seat adjustment control unit with memory.

Seat adjustment if the occupants are buckled up
Dependent upon how the front passenger seat is set the:
- backrest and the seat cushion inclination is adjusted
- seat height is optimized
- the entire seat is moved on the longitudinal adjustment axis

Seat adjustment if the occupants are not buckled up
The system moves the seat into a position that is suitable for situations that are unfavorable with regard to safety technology.

The PRE-SAFE function of the front passenger seat can be switched off via STAR DIAGNOSIS.

Seat occupied recognition sensor
The seat occupied recognition of the front passenger seat takes place:
- Over the front passenger seat occupied recognition sensor (B41/1) (not (United States Of America) and as from 1.6.05 without code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR) [AKSE])
- Over the front passenger seat occupied and child seat recognition sensor (B48) (up to 18.2.04 for (United States Of America), up to 31.5.05 without (United States Of America), as from 1.6.05 with code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR) [AKSE])
- Over the WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensors (B48/11, B48/12, B48/13, B48/14) and the WSS (Weight Sensing System) control unit (N2/13) (for (United States Of America) as from 19.2.04)
