Acceleration slip regulation (ASR)
In order to achieve an optimum traction with too large a driving torque (spinning wheels), the drive torque must be reduced. The drive torque reduction is controlled by the data exchange between the ESP control unit (N47-5) and the respective control unit of the injection and ignition system via the CAN data bus.

The engine control unit reduces the throttle valve position of the throttle valve actuator in contrast to the accelerator pedal position specified by the driver as well as the ignition timing being retarded. In the ESP control unit (N47-5) a check is constantly made as to whether, for example, as a result of a sudden improvement in road adhesion the control functions can be canceled in order to again permit the drive torque specified by the driver as soon as possible

Engine drag torque regulation MSR
If slip occurs at the drive wheels when the throttle is closed, then this is detected by the ESP control unit (N47-5).

The signal (throttle valve increase) is reported to the engine control unit via the CAN data bus. The calculated throttle valve opening is regulated by the control unit via the throttle valve actuator.

With this information, the drive torque can be adjusted so that no slip occurs at the drive wheels. This improves the lateral stability of the vehicle. This process take place without informing the driver (warning lamp A1e41).
