Remove/Install Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) Hydraulic Unit

Remove/Install

DANGER:
- Risk of injury, body parts may become jammed or crushed. Risk of injury, skin and eyes may be injured due to brake fluid spraying out at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system
- Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
- Risk of poisoning from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury from brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes.
- Pour brake fluid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.


1 Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
2 Remove key from ignition lock

NOTE: Vehicles with Keyless Go code (889): Press start/stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off.

3 Unplug electrical connector from SBC control module (A7/3n1)
4 Remove right air intake pipe (1)

5 Remove air cleaner housing
6 Mark hydraulic lines
7 Detach hydraulic lines from SBC hydraulic unit (A7/3)

CAUTION: Before opening the SBC system, thoroughly clean the surrounding area of the separation point. Even the smallest particles of dirt, introduced into the hydraulic components, can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the SBC system.

NOTE:

- Collect any brake fluid which runs out in a fluff-free, absorbent cloth. Seal hydraulic lines and connections on the SBC hydraulic unit (A7/3) immediately with blind plugs.
- Installation: Do not mix up hydraulic lines, observe markings.

CAUTION: See notes on handling brake fluid

8 Disconnect suction line (2)

CAUTION: Seal suction line and connection on SBC hydraulic unit (A7/3) immediately with blind plugs in order to avoid damage due to brake fluid running out.

9 Detach return line from SBC hydraulic unit (A7/3)

CAUTION: Seal suction line and connection on SBC hydraulic unit (A7/3) immediately with blind plugs in order to avoid damage due to brake fluid running out.

10 Remove SBC hydraulic unit (A7/3)

NOTE: Remove SBC hydraulic unit (A7/3) complete with retaining plate.

11 Install in the reverse order
12 Rinse off brake fluid which has run out with water
13 Bleeding brake system with STAR DIAGNOSIS

CAUTION: The warning buzzer in the instrument cluster is deactivated during the bleeding process. After completing all work, therefore, the STAR DIAGNOSIS menu item "Activate warning buzzer in instrument cluster" must be called.
