GF07.16-P-0001IC Common Rail Diesel Injection (CDI) - Function

The fuel injection system "CDI 3" is used in engines 647 CDI and 648 CDI (Common Rail Diesel Injection). The engine is fully controlled by the CDI control unit (N3/9), which controls, regulates and monitors the following systems:
^ Fuel injection
^ Charge pressure control
^ Exhaust gas recirculation
^ Electronic accelerator/cruise control/idle speed control
^ Drive authorization system stage/immobilizer (DAS 3)
^ Diagnosis/DTC memory
^ Diesel particulate filter (DPF) (optional for engine 648)

These systems contain the following functions, to name a few:

General base functions
^ Synchronization (fuel injection)
^ Load detection
^ Starter control
^ Interface communication (CAN)
^ Version coding

Electronic drive control
^ NAT/AMT support
^ TCS/ESP support
^ Starting torque limitation

Fuel injection functions
^ Pre and post injection (+ post injection with DPF)
^ Rpm limitation
^ Fuel pump actuation
^ High-pressure pump control (quantity control)
^ Rail pressure control
^ Inertia fuel shutoff
^ Idle speed control
^ Smooth running control

Air control function
^ Exhaust gas recirculation control
^ Charge pressure control
^ Intake port shutoff motor (except engine 648 up to o12/03)

Special functions
^ Altitude adaptation
^ Torque interface
^ Monitoring concept
^ Immobilizer function (DAS 3)
^ Diesel particulate filter (optional for engine 648))
^ Calculation and expenditure of fuel consumption
^ Intake manifold pressure monitoring
^ Suction fan control
^ Anti-jerk control
^ Cruise control (with variable speed limiter)
^ Distronic (optional)
^ Glow time control
^ Glow time and glow voltage control (for model 211 (United States of America))
^ Quantity mean value adaptation (with DPF, EU4, model 211 (United States of America))

Diagnostic functions
^ Fault memory handling
^ Engine control diagnosis
^ European On-Board Diagnosis (except United States of America) Model 211 as of 03/03 Model 220 as of 09/03
^ OBD (for model 211 (United States of America))
^ Diagnosis via CAN
^ Diagnosis via K-line

CDI control unit versions (Software)
^ EU3
^ EU3 up (update)
^ (United States of America) (for model 211 with engine 648)
^ EU4 (for engine 648)
^ EU4 red (derated) (for model 211 with engine 648)

Amongst others, the EU3 up version includes:
^ Fuel injection pressure up to 1600 bar
^ Fuel injectors (Y76) with precise fuel supply measurement and less drift
^ Air-cooled 180 A alternator (G2) with interface and freewheel

The EU4 version also contains:
^ Diesel particulate filter (optional)
^ O2 sensor upstream TWC (G3/2) for quantity mean value adaptation

The EU4 red version contains a number of items including:
^ EU4VVersion
^ Performance reduction through software adjustment for the engine control in the CDI control unit

The USA version (only model 211) contains a number of items including:
^ Fuel filter with water separator and fuel filter water level sensor (B76)
^ Display in instrument cluster for water separator (A1)
^ O2 sensor upstream TWC for quantity mean value adaptation
^ Larger exhaust gas recirculation cooler and left exhaust gas recirculation positioner (Y27/9) with large orifice area (diameter 24 mm) for a large recycled exhaust volume
