TRUNK LID VALET LOCK RETROFIT
WARNING
Do not disconnect the negative battery cable. Extensive reprogramming requirements are otherwise necessary. Wiring harnesses are therefore electrically active.
Severe vehicle damage, personal injury, or death from electrical shock could result.
Exercise extreme caution while executing these installation instructions. Keep the ignition and radio powered OFF through the final test.
Note:
Retrofitting the trunk lid valet lock is a customer pay matter. Do not submit a warranty claim for retrofitting the trunk lid valet lock.
NOTICE!
Incorrect installation of connectors can result in damaged, bent pins.
Damaged, bent pins will result in component malfunction or failure.
Inspect connectors before and after installation.
A. Preparing for the Installation

5. Disconnect the trunk lid remote control button (B, Figure 1), if so equipped.
6. Remove the trunk lid paneling (C, Figure 1) by releasing the retaining clips securing it.
7. Disconnect the power supply connector (A, Figure 2) from the lamp in the trunk lid paneling.
8. Disconnect the power supply connector (B, Figure 2) from the emergency release switch for the trunk lid in the trunk lid paneling.
9. Remove the retaining bracket for the trunk lid lock by removing the three M6 screws (Arrows, Figure 3).
10. Remove the slotless machine screw from the license plate panel by removing the MS nut (A, Figure 3) on the trunk lid interior.
11. Detach the linkage rod (A, Figure 4) from the trunk lid lock (C, Figure 4).
12. Disconnect the wiring (B, Figure 4) from the trunk lid lock (C, Figure 4).
13. Remove the license plate.
14. Use a plastic wedge (A, Figure 5) to carefully pry up and remove the license plate panel (B, Figure 5) on the trunk lid exterior.
15. Remove the two M6 screws (Figure 6) securing the trunk lid lock on the trunk lid exterior.
16. Remove the trunk lid lock from the trunk lid interior side.
B. Retrofitting the Valet Lock for the Trunk Lid
1. Remove the tab (Figure 7) above the lock cylinder from the trunk lid lock.
2. Insert the included microswitch (Figure 8) for the trunk lid lock into the cavity in the left side of the assembly.
Note:
The microswitch is not keyed to the cavity in the trunk lid lock. Make sure to insert the microswitch into the cavity exactly as shown in Figure 8.
3. Open the crimp lock (Figure 9) of the included connector.
4. Insert the female end of the included white wires into pin one (A, Figure 1) and pin two (B, Figure 2) of the included connector.
5. Close the crimp lock (Figure 9) of the connector.
6. Flag the wire coming from pin # 1 (A, Figure 10) of the connector with a piece of masking tape (A, Figure 11) to identify it as the ground wire.
Note:
Use pin # 1 of the connector for ground.
7. Wrap the wires with electrical tape (B, Figure 11) starting approximately ten inches from the connector (C, Figure 11).
8. Cut off the pins (D, Figure 11) from the two wires.
9. Strip off 1/4 inch insulation from the wire ends cut in step 8 (D, Figure 11).
10. Secure with two wire ties (Arrows, Figure 12) the newly-made wiring harness to the wiring harness running along the trunk lid area exposed by the removed trunk lid lock.
11. Reinstall the trunk lid lock with the two M6 screws (Figure 6) on the trunk lid exterior and the retaining bracket with the three M6 screws (Arrows, Figure 3) on the trunk lid interior.
12. Connect the newly-made wiring harness (C, Figure 11) to the trunk lid lock (A, Figure 13).
13. Reconnect the wiring (B, Figure 13) to the trunk lid lock.
14. Reattach the linkage rod (C, Figure 13) to the trunk lid lock.
15. Reinstall the license plate panel by snapping in the panel on the trunk lid exterior and reusing the slotless machine screw to secure it with the nut (D, Figure 13) on the interior side of the trunk lid.
16. Cut the wire tie (A, Figure 14) securing the solder joint for the ground wires.
17. Unravel the tape (B, Figure 14) from the solder joint and the brown ground wires.
18. Cut off the solder joint from the brown ground wires.
19. Strip off 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of all the brown ground wires.
20. Solder spice (A, Figure 15) the stripped ends of the brown ground wires together with the stripped end of the white, masking-tape-flagged ground wire (A, Figure 12) coming from pin # 1 of the connector of the newly made wiring harness.
a. Twist the solder splice onto the wire ends.
b. Use a heat gun on high setting to melt the solder and glue over the wire ends.
21. Wrap the ground wires and solder splice with electrical tape (A, Figure 16).
22. Secure with a wire tie the tape-wrapped solder splice and ground wires to the anchoring point (A, Figure 14) from where it was previously secured.
23. Unravel the tape (C, Figure 14) from the wiring harness for the emergency release switch for the trunk lid.
24. Find the brown/green wire coming from pin # 3 of the connector for the emergency release switch for the trunk lid.
25. Separate the brown/green wire from the rest of the wires in the wiring harness.
26. Cut the brown/green wire approximately eight inches from the connector for the emergency switch for the trunk lid.
27. Strip off 1/4 inch of insulation from both ends of the brown/green wire cut in step 26.
28. Solder spice (B, Figure 15) the stripped ends of the brown/green wire together with the stripped end of the white wire (B, Figure 12) coming from pin # 2 of the connector of the newly-made wiring harness.
a. Twist the solder splice onto the wire ends.
b. Use a heat gun on high setting to melt the solder and glue over the wire ends.
29. Wrap the wiring harness for the emergency release switch for the trunk lid together with the solder splice with electrical tape.
30. Reconnect the power supply connector (B, Figure 2) to the emergency release switch for the trunk lid in the trunk lid paneling.
C. Wiring Harness Pin-Out
D. Function Testing and Final Assembly
1. Reconnect the power supply connector (A, Figure 2) to the lamp in the trunk lid paneling.
2. Reinstall the trunk lid paneling (C, Figure 1) by reinserting the retaining clips to secure it.
3. Reconnect the trunk lid remote control button (B, Figure 1), if so equipped.
4. Reinstall the cover (A, Figure 1) on the bottom of the trunk lid by reinstalling the three 4.2 mm sheet metal screws (Arrows, Figure 1).
