The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1) recognizes when the portable CTEL (A34/6) has received a new Short Message Service (SMS) message and sends it to the display of the respective audio device (e.g. radio (A2) (standard equipment)) for display.

The audio device lists the received and transmitted SMS messages as "read", "unread" and "sent". The user also has the option at any time to delete SMS messages that are no longer required.

For vehicles with code (386) Preinstallation for telephone "Handy", UPCI system or with code (388) Telephone "Handy", UPCI system, the user can also compose SMS messages and send them using the portable CTEL (A34/6) or the audio device.

For vehicles with code (387) Preinstallation for telephone "Handy", UPCI system, USA/Canada, the user can only compose and send SMS messages using the portable CTEL (A34/6).
