GF82.85-P-2007QM Telephone Mode, Function
- with CODE (388) Telephone "Handy", UPCI system

Component Identification:

The telephone system can be operated as follows:
^ directly at the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3)
^ Using the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) in combination with the multifunction display of the instrument cluster (A1)
^ Via the voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]))

The audio source is automatically muted during a telephone call. The telephone radio signals are transmitted and received by the telephone antenna (A2/22 or A2/49a1). The display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) shows the destination field strengths in 5 grades when the telephone is in its ready status. All control signals and useful signals (e.g. sound signals with hands-free system activated) are transmitted via the media-oriented system transport (MOST).

For this purpose, the portable CTEL requires an interface to the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST), which is implemented through the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1).
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) has the following telephone functions:
^ Automatic disabling of telephone card when the personal identification number (PIN) is entered incorrectly 3 times.
^ A 911 emergency call can also be made without entering a PIN number or when the telephone card is not inserted.
^ Direct dialing of the telephone number with the rotary switch or numerical keypad, display of name of party being called (when number entered is known).
^ Speed dial: The first 10 memory locations can be dialed by pressing one key only, all other memory locations can be dialed by entering the 3-digit memory location number.
^ Dialing from lists in the memory, sorted by
- Memory location number
- Names (alphabetic)
- List of the last 10 numbers dialed

^ Display of the telephone number during an incoming call (in the event that the number is also transmitted by radio signal), display of the caller's name (if the number is known).

Data security through Short Message Service (SMS) buffer
When the power supply fails, the characters stored in the buffer are saved. However, it is possible for up to 4 characters to be lost. When switched off in a controlled manner, no characters are lost. Editing SMS messages is possible only when SMS messages are present in the buffer.

Characters are entered with the predictive speller or via the keypad (same as for portable CTEL). SMS messages can also be transmitted via the keypad; a telephone number (of person to be called) can be entered or selected from the telephone directory.

Switching on again
After switching back on, the basic telephone display appears. By selecting menu point "SMS" the main SMS menu can be displayed. The user can select "edit SMS" in the SMS main menu and continue the editing with the aid of the predictive speller.
