GF82.85-P-2012QMU Navigation Mode, Function
- with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)

The location of the vehicle as well as the direction and distance to the destination are determined with the aid of the navigation system (after entering the destination). The required measures for reaching the destination are introduced after this (navigation). A navigation processor for reading the digital map data is integrated in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). This is activated by pressing the "NAV" button on the operating unit in conjunction with the digital versatile disk (DVD) ROM disk drive.

The note "Please insert navigation DVD" appears in the navigation screen.

This note should ensure that the correct DVD is used. The DVD ROM disk drive can also play audio CDs.

Destination entry
The destination input takes place menu-assisted on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and is processed by the integral navigation processor. The following options for destination input are available:
^ Address
^ Destination memory
^ Destination with map
^ Special destinations (e.g. station, airport)
^ Travel guide
^ Last destinations

Predictive speller
While entering a destination the letters which are still missing are completed from an existing list. The predictive speller is only active in the alphabetic list of names.

It relates to destination input and road input for navigation. In the menu Special destinations the submenus "Bypassing other locations..." and "National destinations..." are assisted. The menu "National destinations..." contains a further submenu. The individual menu items in this submenu use the alphabetic list of names.

Dynamic supplementation
This function is realized with the manual entry of the destination. While entering a destination the letters which are still missing are completed from an existing list. The supplemented characters have a black background. Deleting can be accomplished character by character.

Position finding
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) continuously calculates the location of the vehicle using the following procedure:
^ Global Positioning System (GPS) position finding
^ Basic position finding (dead reckoning)
^ Map-supported map matching

The navigation processor calculates the most probable position by continuously comparing the results returned by these 3 methods.

Route calculation
The route is calculated by the navigation processor in accordance with the specified destination, or automatically, after a deviation from the suggested route has taken place. The calculated route is stored in the navigation processor.

Route guidance
Navigation starts once the navigation processor has carried out the route calculation. 3 types of display can be selected for graphic navigation:
^ with map
^ with map and symbol display before turn-off points
^ with symbol display only (guide symbols)

It is possible to change between any 3 types of presentation. The navigation is also supported by voice output from the vehicle loudspeakers.
