GF77.30-P-0002QA Soft Top, Function

The convertible stop can be opened and closed hydraulically with the soft top control button (S84/10) or the transmitter key (A8/1) (pressing button).
The soft top control button (S84/10) is located in the center console and read in by the soft top mechanism control unit (N52). Before opening or closing the soft top, the limit switches are checked.
The following function requirements must be present for the soft top by actuating the soft top control button (S84/10):
^ Limit switch search and check successful
^ Circ. 15 ON
^ No undervoltage or overvoltage
^ The temperature of the soft top actuation hydraulic unit (A7/5) is in a valid range.
^ Vehicle speed signal below approx. 4 km/h
^ No faults at outputs for actuating soft top actuators and power windows
^ Roll bar actuation not active
^ Trunk lid closed (signal via interior CAN (CAN B))
^ Trunk partition closed
^ Trunk partition for ski bag closed (SA)

The corresponding soft top function is activated if the function requirements are fulfilled and a corresponding request from the soft top switch is present for t = 500 ms. With the "Touch control" (except vehicles as of model year 09 /YoM 08 with code (494) USA version or code (460) Canada version) the power windows can be actuated centrally by actuating the corresponding soft top switch.

The following function requirements must be present for the soft top via the transmitter key (A8/1):
^ No undervoltage or overvoltage
^ The temperature of the soft top actuation hydraulic unit (A7/5) is in a valid range.
^ No faults at outputs for actuating soft top actuators and power windows
^ Roll bar actuation not active
^ Trunk lid closed (signal via interior CAN (CAN B))
^ Trunk partition closed
^ Trunk partition for ski bag closed (SA)

Soft top sequence is interrupted by:
^ Function requirements not present or incorrect
^ Termination requirements resulting from operation sequence
^ Cancellation of actuation request

Hold transmitter key (A8/1) in direction of door lock to active this function. The direction bit and selection bit "Titling/sliding roof" already present from the central actuation messages are used.

Automatically opening side windows
Before starting the soft top actuation, first the side windows are completely opened to prevent damage to or jamming of the windows or collision with the linkage flaps.

Automatically closing side windows (except vehicles as of model year 09 /YoM 08 with code (494) USA version or code (460) Canada version)
During closing, first the soft top is closed and then the side windows are raised

Retracting and extending roll bar
The roll bars are located below the head restraints in the rear. They are raised automatically during an accident or a critical situation. The roll bars can be retracted manually when the soft top is opened.

If the roll bars are extended, the head restraints cannot be lowered.

The soft top is opened and closed hydraulically.
A pump in the soft top mechanism hydraulic unit (A7/5) generates the required operating pressure and the hydraulic cylinders actuate the mechanism of the soft top. A total of 7 hydraulic cylinders are installed:
^ Open/close soft top hydraulic cylinder (1 each)
^ Raise/lower soft top bow hydraulic cylinder (2 each)
^ Open/close soft top compartment lid hydraulic cylinder (2 each)
^ Soft top actuation hydraulic cylinder (2 each)

The soft top system is actuated by the soft top mechanism control unit (N52).
It evaluates the positions of the limit and control switches and accordingly switches to the solenoid valves.

The soft top is activated with the aid of the soft top control button switch (S84/10), the following functions are possible:
^ Open soft top
^ Close soft top
^ Stop function (interruption of soft top actuation)
^ Central actuation of all 4 power windows by "touch control" (except vehicles as of model year 09 /YoM 08 with code (494) USA version or code (460) Canada version)

The following warning signals present for the soft top function:
^ The indicator lamp in the soft top control button (S84/10) goes out after each soft top closing operation.
^ If the vehicle is operated with the soft top not properly locked, a warning signal sounds for 10 s and the indicator lamp in the soft top control button (S84/10) flashes.

A new warning signal can be output only after resetting
^ "C. 15R ON" and "c. 15R OFF" or changing switch status for limit switch.

Monitoring soft top functions
To monitor the movement of the soft top, the duration of the actuation time for the solenoid valves (except stop function) is checked for each motion stage up to the time the positions for the limit switches expected are reached.

If the required period of time is exceeded, the motion is interrupted and the error is stored in the soft top mechanism control unit (N52).
