Check Engine Light Illuminated, Code 0954

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles that the check engine light is illuminated with DTC code 0954, this may be caused by the incorrect positioning of the absorber which would block the ventilation hole of the charcoal canister (Figure 1) and cause the check engine lamp to illuminate. To resolve, check the position of the absorber in the rear right side wheel house and correct as follows.

1. Locate and remove the two rivets on the rear right side wheel house (Figure 2 and 3).

2. Remove the wheel house cover.

3. Check whether the glued damping mat is covering the intake fitting (Figure 1) and proceed with below applicable procedure.

Model 204: If the mat is covering the intake fitting (Figure 1), remove the damping mat and replace with a smaller damping mat (Figure 4). Also fit a protective cap on the intake fitting shutoff valve.

Model 209: If the mat is covering the intake fitting (Figure 5), remove the damping mat and glue a new damping mat in the correct position (Figure 6). Also fit a protective cap on the intake fitting of the shutoff valve.

4. If the damping mat is not covering the intake fitting (204/209), remove the charcoal canister. Refer to WIS document AR47.30-P-8212cw (204) or AR47.30-P-8212pr (209).

5. Replace the shutoff valve and seal ring (Figure 7). Also fit a protective cap on the intake fitting of the shutoff valve.

Note:
In order to remove the shut off valve from the canister, the locking tab (Figure 8) must be opened and the valve rotated prior to any attempt at removing the valve from the canister. Failure to do so will result in damage to the charcoal canister assembly.

6. Reinstall the charcoal canister assembly.

Note:
A copy of the SDS short test and all tests performed must accompany returned parts. If the documentation is missing or does not support the diagnosis, the warranty claim may be debited.
