Active Head Restraints Cannot be Reset

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the active head restraint not able to be reset by the process illustrated in the owner s manual, this may be caused by the solenoid in the head restraint not allowing the head restraint to reset. To remedy, please follow the procedure below.

1. Remove the seat back lining of the affected seat and unplug the connector of the active head restraint (Figure 1). See table below for WIS references per model for removing the seat back lining.

2. Connect adapter cable to the head restraint side of the Neck Pro wiring harness using special tool W220 589 00 99 02 from kit W220 589 00 99 00 (Figure 2).

3. Connect adapter cable to Vehicle Power Adapter Plug with Banana Jack (found in Solar Panel Charging Module W900 589 02 63 00, or is locally available at Radio Shack Catalog #: 270-1521) using tester cable W220 589 00 99 20 from kit W220 589 00 99 00 (Figure 3)

NOTE:
It is not necessary to use the vehicle power adapter, but it is highly recommended.

4. Turn to at least key position 1 and plug the Vehicle Power Adapter Plug into the 12 V onboard power supply for about 1 second and then unplug from onboard power supply.

NOTE:
Do not leave the Vehicle Power Adapter Plug in for more than about a second. Extended stress from current on the solenoid may damage the solenoid.

5. Switch leads on the Vehicle Power Adapter Plug [put (+) to (-) and (-) to (+)], and repeat step 4.

6. After the process is done, it should be possible to reset the head restraint as described in the owner s manual.
