GF82.85-P-3134GZU Comand Operating, Display and Controller Unit, Component Description
GF82.85-P-3134GZU COMAND Operating, Display And Controller Unit, Component Description
- with CODE (494) USA version
- with CODE (528) HIGH Class USA
- with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)
Location
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit is installed in the center console.
2 versions are available:
- with code (528) HIGH Class USA
- with code (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation)
With code (530), a navigation module with DVD drive can be integrated as special equipment or a dealer option.
Purpose of COMAND operating, display and controller unit
The following system components integrated into the unit are controlled:
- Radio tuner (amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency modulation (FM) with weather-band (WB) information channel)
- Basic audio amplifier
- Audio CD drive with CD text support
- Map navigation only with code (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)
- Access to integrated DVD drive
The following components are controlled:
- Amplifier for sound system (N40/3) with code (810) Sound system
- CD changer (A2/6) with code (819) 6-disk CD changer
- UPCI (Universal cell phone Interface) control unit (N123/1), dealer option
- SDAR control unit (N87/5) with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio
The SDAR control unit (3rd generation) has been used since modification year 07/1, and now it is also available for vehicles with code (460) Additional parts, Canadian vehicles. The SDAR control unit (3rd generation) differs from the previous generation on account of the following properties:
- Shorter response times
- Improved reception properties
- Temperature and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) properties have been optimized
An external analog audio source can be connected to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the AUX jack in the glove box. Data exchange via a discrete line.
Other functions:
- Gateway function between Control Area Network bus, class B (interior) (CAN B) and Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- MOST management
- Audio management (master control unit for management of all audio sources)
Function
The control buttons and switches on COMAND operating, display and controller unit are read in over the "I" and "O" ports on the micro-controller and provided to the central processing unit for processing. Depending on the function, the button or switch actuations are processed in the arithmetic unit or transferred to the other system components in the form of a data telegram via the MOST or CAN-B.
To open the control cover, press the "EJECT" key below the display.
Design
- "EJECT" button for CD and DVD drive below control flap.
- CAN-B and MOST interface
- Controller Area Network, class D (diagnosis) (CAN-D) interface is used for diagnosis and exchange of data between the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) and COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- Standard audio signal amplifier with digital signal processing
- Navigation module/DVD-ROM drive (modular) (for navigation, with code (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system) or as dealer option)
- GPS receiver and vibration gyrometer for navigation
- AUX jack for an external analog audio source, when rear entertainment is not installed
- Function displays for:
- Audio
- Radio
- CD drive
- CD changer
- AUX
- SDAR
- Navigation
- Communication
- Telephone
- SMS (read only)
- Services
- Telediagnosis, MB-Info, Emergency call
- System settings
Navigation processor
The navigation functions on vehicles with code (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system) are contained in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. For this function a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver and a turn rate sensor are also integrated into the navigation section, in addition to the DVD-ROM drive.
GPS
Unit for reception of GPS signals (longitude and latitude as well as UTC time and date).
Position fixing, e.g. through the reception of at least 3 satellites, the receiver can evaluate and track up to 12 satellites
The GPS signal is also used for adjusting the system time, which is displayed in the electronic clock (A1p6) in the instrument cluster (A1). The GPS antenna (A2/93a6) is integrated into the roof antenna module (A2/93).
Gyro sensor
The turn rate sensor is a piezo-electric vibration gyro. It is used for detecting changes in direction, e.g. when cornering.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is accomplished via CAN-D, whereby all other control units in the MOST ring can also be diagnosed via this interface.
