Tire pressure monitoring (TPM) assists the driver in constantly monitoring the correct tire inflation pressure.

The absolute pressure of the individual tires is displayed in the left multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1). This is the case when no current values from the TPM wheel sensors are available after the ignition is switched on.





This also applies if wheel sensors were changed or different wheels were fitted.

In these cases the TPM system checks whether changes have occurred in the position of the wheels. The pressure values are not displayed until the TPM system can unambiguously assign them.

On-board wheel detection and management by the TPM system

Detection of wheels and wheel sensors after start of trip:

^ Detects known wheels after one minute at speeds greater than 25 km/h
^ Detects new wheels after a maximum of three minutes at speeds greater than 25 km/h
^ Detects that a TPM wheel sensor is missing after a maximum of 10 minutes at speeds greater than 25 km/h

The TPM [RDK] control unit (N88) evaluates the signals from the wheel sensors and stores the corresponding wheel identifiers.

Automatic axle assignment after start of trip:

^ Assignment of known wheels to an axle at speeds greater than 25 km/h (confirmation)
^ Assignment of new wheels to an axle in less than 300 seconds at speeds greater than 25 km/h (e.g. spare wheel fitted)

Automatic side assignment after start of trip:

^ Assignment of wheels (front axle) to a side after a maximum of 360 seconds at speeds greater than 25 km/h by evaluation of the signals from the front TPM wheel antennas
^ Assignment of wheels (rear axle) to a side after driving for a longer period of time through several curves at speeds between 35 and 80 km/h (by evaluation of the steering angle and the varying left rear and right rear wheel speeds)
