^ VCS [SBS] (only for establishing call)

Establish call function sequence over mobile phone buttons
Dialing the telephone number using the buttons on the mobile phone or selecting the telephone number from the mobile phone's telephone book and pressing the "Accept call button" initiates the telephone call in handsfree mode.
The control signals of the mobile phone buttons are internally processed and forwarded in the following way to the COMAND controller unit:
^ Plug connection
^ Discrete line
^ Communication control unit
^ Discrete line

On a mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated over Bluetooth, the control signals of the mobile phone buttons are internally processed. They are not forwarded to the COMAND controller unit. The telephone call is established in "private mode".

Establish call function sequence over phone buttons on the COMAND controller unit
Dialing the telephone number using the phone buttons on the COMAND controller unit and pressing the "Accept phone call" button establishes the telephone call in the handsfree mode. The control signals from the COMAND controller unit telephone buttons are processed internally.

The telephone call is established in "private mode" on a mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated over Bluetooth.

Establish call function sequence over Audio/COMAND control panel
The telephone function is selected using the "ComTEL/telephone" menu item with the aid of the "TEL" phone button on the COMAND controller unit, and then displayed on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).

The control signals from the COMAND controller unit telephone buttons are processed internally. The menu item is shown on the Audio/COMAND display by the COMAND controller unit over a low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line. The following ways of dialing a telephone number are now available to the user:
^ Enter telephone number over the Audio/COMAND control panel
^ Search for telephone number using "Name" menu entry in the address book
^ Search for telephone number using the "Call lists" menu entry in the call lists (accepted, dialed)

Activating the "SEND" function establishes the telephone call in the handsfree mode.
The control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded over the telematics CAN to the COMAND controller unit.

The user can scroll forward and back in the address book and in the "Call lists" using the Audio/COMAND control panel to select the name of the person to be called.
The telephone call is established in "private mode" on a mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated over Bluetooth.

Establish call function sequence over multifunction steering wheel button groups
The address book of the COMAND controller unit and therefore also the mobile phone's telephone book is selected by the system selection button (S110s3) over the selection menu in the instrument cluster (A1). Scrolling forward and back in the address book of the COMAND controller unit using the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) enables the name of the party being called to be selected.
The accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) can be used to establish the telephone call in the handsfree system.

The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded over the following components to the COMAND controller unit:
^ Steering LIN
^ Steering column module control unit (N80)
^ Chassis CAN
^ Instrument cluster
^ Interior CAN

The display in the instrument cluster is generated by the COMAND controller unit over the interior CAN.

The telephone call is established in "private mode" on a mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated over Bluetooth.

Establish call function sequence over voice control system
Pressing the voice control system ON button (S111s4) of the right multifunction steering wheel button group activates the voice control of the voice control system.
The control signals of the VCS [SBS] on button are forwarded over the following components to the COMAND controller unit:
^ Steering LIN
^ Steering column module control unit
^ Chassis CAN
^ Instrument cluster
^ Interior CAN

A signal tone is emitted after the voice control system has been activated.
The signal tone is transmitted by the COMAND controller unit for vehicles with code (810) Sound system over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3).

From there, the signal tone is transmitted via discrete lines to the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker (H4/1)
^ Right front door speaker (H4/2)
^ Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
^ Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
^ Center instrument panel speaker (H4/27)

For vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the signal tone is emitted directly at the COMAND controller unit over discrete lines at the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker
^ Right front door speaker
^ Left rear door speaker
^ Right rear door speaker
^ Center instrument panel speaker

Now different voice commands can be used to search and select a telephone number. The voice commands are recorded by the voice control system microphone (B25/7) and forwarded over a discrete line straight to the COMAND controller unit.
The voice control of the voice control system is used to establish the telephone call in the handsfree mode.

The individual voice commands are listed in the "Linguatronic operator's manual".

The telephone call is established in "private mode" on a mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated over Bluetooth.

Establish call function sequence for phone call in handsfree mode
After the telephone call has been established the COMAND controller unit transmits or receives the mobile phone signals or data in the following way:
^ Discrete line
^ Communication control unit
^ Discrete line
^ Plug connection
^ Discrete line
^ Multifunction antenna (A28/11)

The voice commands in handsfree mode are recorded by the VCS [SBS] microphone and forwarded over a discrete line straight to the COMAND controller unit. The voice output is forwarded by the COMAND controller unit for vehicles with code (810) Sound system via the MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit. From there, the voice output is transmitted via discrete lines to the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker
^ Right front door speaker
^ Left rear door speaker
^ Right rear door speaker
^ Center instrument panel speaker

For vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice output is emitted directly at the COMAND controller unit over discrete lines at the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker
^ Right front door speaker
^ Left rear door speaker
^ Right rear door speaker
^ Center instrument panel speaker

For a mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated over Bluetooth, the COMAND controller unit transmits or receives the mobile phone signals or data over the Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) and the mobile phone antenna, except for establishing a call using the mobile phone buttons. In the event of establishing a telephone call using the mobile phone buttons, the mobile phone transmits or receives the mobile phone signals or data over the mobile phone antenna. Voice input takes place using the microphone integrated in the mobile phone and voice output is emitted over the speakers integrated into the mobile phone ("private mode").

When in "private mode" the user can make a telephone call without other vehicle occupants being able to hear the conversation.

Terminate call function sequence over mobile phone buttons
Pressing the "END" button on the mobile phone terminates the telephone call.

Terminate call function sequence over phone buttons on the COMAND controller unit
Pressing the "END" button on the COMAND controller unit terminates the telephone call. The control signals from the COMAND controller unit telephone buttons are processed internally.

Terminate call function sequence over Audio/COMAND control panel
Activating the "END" function in the "ComTEL/telephone" menu item terminates the telephone call. The control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded over the telematics CAN to the COMAND controller unit.

Terminate call function sequence over multifunction steering wheel button groups
The accept/terminate phone call button terminates the telephone call.

The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded over the following components to the COMAND controller unit:
^ Steering LIN
^ Steering column module control unit
^ Chassis CAN
^ Instrument cluster
^ Interior CAN

Call termination function sequence
Once the telephone call has been terminated, the COMAND controller unit interrupts transmission or reception of the mobile phone signals or data. This happens internally in the COMAND controller unit.

For a mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated over Bluetooth, the COMAND controller unit interrupts the transmission or reception of mobile phone signals or data in an internal control-unit procedure, except where a call is terminated using the mobile phone buttons. When a telephone call is terminated using the mobile phone buttons, the mobile phone interrupts the transmission or reception of mobile phone signals or data. This process runs internally in the mobile phone.
