Component Identification:

Location
The backup camera control unit is located behind the paneling on the left side of the luggage compartment.

Tasks
^ Performing self-diagnosis after activation
^ Calculating and generating the graphic displays by means of steering angle and the vehicle data
^ Superimposition of camera images using extension lines and forwarding by way of color image blanking synchronous signal to COMAND controller unit (A40/3)
^ Voltage supply for backup camera (B84/3)
^ Data transfer of backup camera status (ON/OFF) to COMAND controller unit
^ Only (Japan): Generation of commands for issuing acoustic warning messages in the Parallel Parking mode. The warning messages are issued over the COMAND controller unit.

The backup camera control unit is a user in the Interior CAN and can be diagnosed via the central gateway control unit (N93). The backup camera control unit is always active and operates in the background. If necessary, it can be switched off completely by the vehicle power supply control unit (N82/1).
