GF07.61-P-0001MI Motor Electronics (ME-SFI) Fuel Injection And Ignition System, Function

Gasoline injection and ignition system ME-SFI, general
The ME gasoline injection and ignition system is delivered by the company "Robert Bosch GmbH" and creates, in electrical connection with the sensors and actors from engine 272/273 KE Kanal-E inspritzung) (DI - duct injection), the engine control "ME 9.7".

The abbreviated designation "ME 9.7" means:
M = Motronic
E = Electronic accelerator pedal
9.7 = Version 9.7

The whole engine control is contained in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10).
Sensor data is directly read in from the engine control and indirectly via the CAN interconnection and actuates the respective actors. Here the individual functions and systems of the engine control are controlled and coordinated by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit.

The following table presents the model and major assembly overviews for the engine 272/273 KE:

The engine control is sub-divided into the following points:
^ Basic functions
^ Engine system
^ Injection system
^ Ignition system
^ Exhaust system

Basic functions
- Control system diagnosis
- Fault memory
- On-board diagnosis II (OBD II)
- Diagnosis via CAN
- CAN interconnection
- Flash programming
- Variant coding
- Drive authorization system 3 (DAS 3)
- Torque coordination
- Heat management
- Alternator interface
- Maximum vehicle speed limit

Diagnosis
For diagnostic purposes, the fault codes from the engine control can be read off and deleted with the Xentry diagnostics, and specific diagnostic functions initiated.

CAN interconnection
Over the connected drive train CAN (CAN C) and chassis CAN (CAN E), the ME-SFI [ME] control unit exchanges data with the other control units integrated in the CAN network.
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit also acts as the interface (gateway) between the two CAN bus systems.

Flash programming
The engine control in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit is flash programmable, that is the complete software in the control unit can be replaced using the Xentry diagnostics (replaced). The software required for control unit programming can be found on the Star Diagnosis Xentry diagnostics Update DVD.

Variant coding
Using variant coding the following vehicle versions and equipment can be coded using the Xentry diagnostics:
- Vehicle model
- National version
- Exhaust variants
- Transmission version
- With or without catalytic converter

Engine system
- Start relay actuation
- Throttle flap control
- Safety fuel shutoff
- Transmission overload protection

- Support for fully integrated transmission control (VGS)
- Starting torque limitation
- Suction fan actuation
- Calibration of throttle valve
- Intake manifold length switchover
- Tumble flap switchover
- Controlled intake/exhaust camshaft adjustment

Injection system

- Start, post-start phase and acceleration enrichment
- Warm running regulation
- Idle speed control
- Limp-home function
- RPM increase of air conditioning
- Inertia fuel shutoff
- Fuel pump control
