The power supply is too high.

Possible cause:

- A80 (Intelligent servo module for DIRECT SELECT)
Affected functions:

- Battery / On-board electrical system

-------------------------------------------------

Test 1: Check alternator.

1. Check alternator.

Test 1.1: Precondition for generator test

Test 1.2: Test regulating voltage.

Test 1.3: Test charge current.

1.1. Precondition for generator test
Note

- Inspect electric cables at the battery and the generator as well as the ground cable between the engine and the body for tight installation and proper condition.
- The poly V-belt must be correctly tensioned.
- The battery electrolyte density and the charge state of the battery must be o.k.The electrolyte density at 20° C must be greater than 1.24 kg/dm³.The maximum difference between the individual cells of the battery must not be more than 0.04 kg/dm³.

1.2. Test regulating voltage.
Warning!Danger

- Risk of explosion from explosive gas!
- Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte!
- Risk of injury from caustic burns to eyes and skin from battery electrolyte or from handling damaged lead acid batteries!
- Secure vehicle to prevent it moving off.
Legend

- 003Multimeter
- G1Battery
- G2Generator
- W10 (Ground, battery)
- X4/10 (Circuit 30 and 61 terminal block and fuse box)
Test sequence

- Switch off ignition.
- Connect multimeter as specified in connection diagram (right-hand figure).
- Start engine.
- Increase engine speed to approx. 3000 rpm.
- Measure direct voltage with multimeter between (G1)- and (G1) +
Specified value

- Voltage[13.0 ... 14.5] V
Question

- Is the measurement value OK?

YES
The measurement value is OK. End of test

NO
The measurement value is not OK._____________________________________________________________Regulating voltage > 14.5 VPossible cause and remedy

- Replace regulator or generator.
End of test_____________________________________________________________Regulating voltage < 13.0 VPossible cause and remedy

- Contact resistance at the connections of the charging system
- The tension of the poly V-belt is insufficient.
- Replace regulator or generator.
End of test

1.3. Test charge current.

- 079Volt-ampere tester with load resistor
- G1Battery
- G2Generator
- W10 (Ground, battery)
- X4/10 (Circuit 30 and 61 terminal block and fuse box)
Note

- Account must be taken of the capacitance of the battery when setting the load resistance.
Test sequence

- Switch off ignition.
- Connect multimeter as specified in connection diagram (right-hand figure).
- Connect volt-ampere meter with load resistance as specified in connection diagram (right-hand figure).
- Start engine.
- Increase engine speed to approx. 2200 rpm.
- Set load resistance accordingly.
- Measure direct current with multimeter between (X4/10) and (G2) B+
Specified value

- The charge current stated on the type plate of the generator must be reached.
- The regulating voltage must not drop below 12.7 V.
Question

- Are the measurement values OK?

YES
The measurement values are OK.End of test

NO
The measurement value is not OK.Possible cause and remedy

- Contact resistance at the connections of the charging system
- The tension of the poly V-belt is insufficient.
- Replace regulator or generator.
End of test
