LIGHT TRUCK:
1993-94 VILLAGER

ISSUE:
Some 1993 and early production 1994 Villager owners may complain of a noise or "rattle" coming from the second row passenger side seat belt retractor/sub woofer area of the vehicle. The sub woofer may cause the seat belt retractor to rattle by transmitting vibration through the speaker bracket into the retractor.

ACTION:
Remove the sub woofer to retractor bracket and install the foam spacer on the base of the sub woofer enclosure.

VERIFY THE CONCERN

1. Operate the audio system playing music with large amounts of bass. Set the radio controls to maximum bass and minimum treble.

2. Isolate the noise by removing the right hand quarter trim panel to access the second row seat belt retractor and sub woofer assembly.

3. Pull all the seat belt webbing from the second row passenger side seat belt retractor.

4. While pulling the seat belt webbing tight, place your other hand on the seat belt retractor and front sub woofer speaker bracket.

5. If the noise changes or disappears, the source of the "rattle" is identified.

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Remove and discard the front sub woofer bracket shown in Figure 1.

2. Wipe the surface clean where the foam pad is to be installed and peel back the protective backing from the pad.

3. Install the polyethylene foam pad (F4XY-18K836-A) to the bottom of the sub woofer enclosure.
