LIGHT TRUCK:
1993-94 VILLAGER

This TSB is being republished in its entirety to include 1994 model year vehicles.

ISSUE:
A "squeak" or "rattle" may be heard in the unoccupied center bucket/bench seat while driving the vehicle. This occurs because the grommets/latches may not provide the close or tight fit required.

ACTION:
Vehicles built 4/13/92 to 5/5/93: Replace the grommets and modify the front latch mounting holes so that the front latches can be adjusted to provide better support. Refer to the following procedure for service details. Vehicles built after 5/5/93: Adjust the front latches only (the mounting holes are elongated from the supplier). Refer to the following procedure for service details.

SEAT REMOVAL

1. Lift the seat back release handle and fold the seat back fully forward, Figure 1.

2. Lift the two (2) floor latch levers at the front of the seat to release the seat from the front floor anchors, Figure 2.

3. Tilt the seat rearward and slide it off its rear floor anchors.

4. Remove the seat from the vehicle.

5. Place the seat upside down on a clean, sturdy workbench.

CENTER SEAT GROMMET REPLACEMENT

Center bucket seats and the center bench seat have the same type of grommets. Each center seat (bucket or bench) has two (2) grommets, Figure 3.

1. Remove the grommets from the seat catcher bracket, Figure 3.

2. Insert the new grommets (F3XY-1264054-A). Verify alignment of tab on rear of the grommet by ensuring that it fits into the slot in the seat catcher bracket.

CENTER SEAT FLOOR LATCH MODIFICATION

Center bucket seats and the center bench seat have the same type of floor latches. Each center seat (bucket or bench) has two (2) floor latches.

1. Remove the center seat floor latch bolts, Figure 4.

2. Remove the floor latches from the center seat pedestal.

3. Elongate the front latch attaching hole on the seat frame horizontally 1.5 mm forward and 1.5 mm rearward. This will yield a hole 10.5 mm high by 13.5 mm long, Figure 5.

4. Reattach the front latch and tighten each bolt finger tight.

5. Repeat the above procedure for the other latch.

6. Reinstall the seat into the vehicle and adjust.

7. While pushing forward on the seat, tighten each latch mounting bolt to 35-40 N-m (25-30 lb.ft.).

WARNING:
IF THE LATCH MOUNTING BOLTS ARE REMOVED MORE THAN THREE (3) TIMES, BOLT REPLACEMENT IS REQUIRED.

NOTE:
VERIFY FLOOR LATCH OPERATION. EXCESSIVE FORCE APPLIED IN STEP 7 MAY CAUSE HIGH LATCHING EFFORTS. IF READJUSTMENT IS NEEDED, LOOSEN THE LATCH MOUNTING BOLTS AND REPEAT STEP 7.

CENTER SEAT FLOOR LATCH ADJUSTMENT

1. Remove seat and loosen the front latch mounting bolts until they are finger tight (disregard if done previously).

2. Reinstall the seat into the vehicle.

EXCESSIVE FORCE APPLIED IN STEP 3 MAY CAUSE HIGH LATCHING EFFORTS. IF READJUSTMENT IS NEEDED, LOOSEN THE LATCH MOUNTING BOLTS AND REPEAT STEP 3.
