Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair



REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the four lower three way catalytic converter heat shield bolts and the lower heat shield.
3. Support the three way catalytic converter.
4. Remove the two converter inlet pipe-to-three way catalytic converter nuts.
5. Remove the two three way catalytic converter bolts.
6. Remove the three way catalytic converter.
7. Discard the three way catalytic converter front and rear gaskets.

INSTALLATION
1. Install new front and rear gaskets on the three way catalytic converter.
2. Position and support the three way catalytic converter.
3. Install the support bracket on the two three way catalytic converter studs.
4. Loosely install the two converter inlet pipe-to-three way catalytic converter nuts and the two three way catalytic converter bolts, ensuring that the gaskets are aligned.
5. Tighten the converter inlet pipe-to-three way catalytic converter nuts to 44-54 Nm (32-39 ft lb).
6. Tighten the three way catalytic converter bolts to 44-54 Nm (32-39 ft lb).
7. Install the three way catalytic converter lower heat shield and tighten the four three way catalytic converter lower heat shield bolts to 5-7 Nm (43-61 in lb).
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Start the engine and inspect for exhaust leaks.
