AIR CONDITIONING - FIXED ORIFICE TUBE REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

LIGHT TRUCK:
1993 VILLAGER

ISSUE:
A fixed orifice tube replacement kit is available for service use if it is not necessary to replace the liquid line for any other reason.

ACTION:
If orifice tube replacement is necessary, install a fixed orifice tube replacement kit. The kit consists of a blue coded orifice tube with a 0.067" (1.70 mm) opening. Refer to the following procedure for orifice tube removal and kit installation details.

1. Discharge the A/C refrigerant system. Refer to the 1993 Villager Service Manual, Page 12-00-9, for discharging procedure.

2. Note the angular position of the ends of the liquid line so it can be put back in the vehicle in the correct position.

3. Remove the liquid line from the vehicle.

4. Locate the orifice tube by the indentation in the metal portion of the line near the condenser, Figure 1.

5. Index the liquid line by drawing a line on the tube to ensure proper position when assembling the liquid line and the orifice tube kit (E5VY-19D695-A).

6. Cut a 2-1/2" (63.5 mm) section from the line at the orifice tube location to remove the orifice tube, Figure 2.

CAUTION:
DO NOT CUT CLOSER THAN 10 (25.4 mm) FROM THE START OF THE BEND.

7. Flush the two (2) pieces of liquid line to remove any contaminants.

8. Install the orifice tube kit. Refer to Figure 3 for components of the orifice kit shown disassembled.

a. Lubricate O-rings with clean refrigerant oil.

b. Assemble the orifice tube kit with the orifice tube installed to the liquid line.

c. Be sure the flow direction arrow is pointing toward the evaporator end of the liquid line and the taper of each compression ring is toward the compression nut.

NOTE:
THE INLET TUBE WILL BE POSITIONED AGAINST THE ORIFICE TUBE TABS WHEN CORRECTLY ASSEMBLED.

9. While holding the hex nut of the tube in a vise, tighten each compression nut to 65-70 lb.ft. (88-95 N-m) with a crow foot wrench, Figure 4.

10. Assemble the liquid line to the vehicle using new green O-rings lubricated with clean refrigerant oil.

NOTE:
USE ONLY SPECIFIED GREEN O-RINGS AT THE SPRING LOCK COUPLING.

11. Leak test, evacuate and charge the system following the approved procedure. Refer to the 1993 Villager Service Manual, Page 12-00-9, for evacuation and charging procedures.

12. Check the A/C system for proper operation.
