Alternator: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove righthand inner splash shield screws and bolts, then shields.
4. Remove wire harness bracket bolt.
5. Remove B terminal insulator boot.
6. Disconnect alternator electrical connector.
7. Remove ground wire nut, then position ground wire aside.
8. Remove B terminal nut, then position B terminal wire aside.
9. Loosen alternator to bracket bolts.
10. Loosen alternator locking bolt.
11. Loosen alternator adjustment bolt, then remove alternator belt.
12. Remove alternator locking bolt and washer.
13. Remove inner alternator to bracket bolt and washers.
14. Remove outer alternator to bracket bolt and washers, then alternator.
15. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque alternator to bracket bolts to 17-19 ft. lbs.
b. Torque locking bolts to 12-15 ft. lbs.
