Engine

Special Tool(s):





Removal (Steps 1-33)

All vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.
2. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
3. Remove the battery tray. For additional information, refer to Battery.
4. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe and air cleaner. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
5. Disconnect the power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.
^ Remove the nut and detach the ground wire and PSP hose bracket.





6. Remove the lower radiator air deflectors.





7. Remove the exhaust system flexpipe. For additional information, refer to Exhaust System.
8. Remove the generator. For additional information, refer to Alternator.
9. Remove the accessory drive belt from the remaining pulleys and the engine.
10. Remove the LH halfshaft.
11. Drain the engine coolant. For additional information, refer to Cooling System.
12. Drain the engine oil and install the drain plug.
^ Tighten to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.)

All wheel drive (AWD) vehicles

13. CAUTION: Do not reuse the CV joint bolts and washers. Install new bolts and washers or damage to the vehicle may occur.

Remove and discard the 6 front driveshaft-to-power take off bolts and washers.





14. CAUTION: Do not reuse the bolts and straps for the center U-joint. Install new bolts and straps or damage to the vehicle may occur.

NOTE: There is a difference in the length of the head of the replacement yoke strap bolts from the production bolts. The longer head pinion bolts can be used in either location.

Remove the front driveshaft.
1 Index-mark the front driveshaft to the center bearing.
2 Remove and discard the bolts and straps.





All vehicles
15. Disconnect the A/C clutch electrical connector.





16. Remove the bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.





17. Remove the nut and the power steering pump pulley.





18. NOTE: The bolt positioned behind the power steering pressure (PSP) tube will remain in the pump housing.

Remove the power steering pump bolts and position the pump aside.





19. Remove the 4 bolts and the lateral support crossmember.





20. Remove the front roll restrictor bolt and the 2 bolts for the engine support crossmember.





21. Remove the rear nut and the engine support crossmember.
^ Discard the nut.





22. Disconnect the 2 transmission cooler tubes.





23. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube fitting from the converter.





24. Remove the bolts and the accelerator cable snow shield.





25. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the speed control actuator cable and remove the cable bracket bolts.





26. Remove the bolt and position the cables and brackets aside.





27. Disconnect the hoses.





28. Disconnect the heater hoses and the throttle body coolant hose.





29. Disconnect the fuel supply tube quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
30. Detach the wiring harness pin-type retainer from the gearshift cable bracket.





31. Disconnect the gearshift cable from the transaxle.





32. Remove the bolts and position the gearshift cable and bracket aside.





33. Disconnect the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor electrical connector and detach the pin-type retainer.
