Distributor: Service and Repair


REMOVAL
1. Disconnect primary wire connector from distributor and vacuum hose from vacuum advance unit.
2. Using a screwdriver, remove distributor cap and position aside with wires attached. Mark position of rotor to distributor housing and position of distributor housing to engine for reference during installation.
3. Remove rotor attaching screws, then remove rotor.
4. Remove distributor hold-down bolts, then remove distributor. Some models use special distributor hold-down bolts. To remove these bolts, tool No. T82L-12270-A or equivalent must be used.

INSTALLATION
1. Check to ensure that distributor base O-ring is in position.
2. Install distributor into engine, checking to ensure that marks made during removal are aligned. Also check to ensure that offset tang of drive coupling is seated in camshaft groove.
3. Install retaining bolts, rotor, vacuum advance hose, primary wire connector and distributor cap.
4. Start engine and adjust ignition timing.
