FORD: 1988 TEMPO
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1988 TOPAZ
ISSUE: Loss of air conditioning when switching from the "A/C" to "Max A/C" or "Max A/C" to "A/C" mode may be caused by the fan controller. The circuit protection within the fan controller may delay the electrical signal for A/C. The delayed signal is interpreted as a system fault and results in the A/C system shutting down.
ACTION: Install a new fan controller that does not have an engineering part number E83B-8C609-AC stamped on it. Refer to the 1988 Car Shop Manual, Volume E, Section 27 for service details
