Removal and Installation

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove two screws attaching distributor cap, then position cap and spark plug wires aside.
3. Remove distributor cap gasket.
4. Label, then remove vacuum hoses from distributor diaphragm.
5. Disconnect distributor harness and note wire location for correct installation.
6. Mark relationship of the distributor housing to the cylinder head for correct installation.
7. Mark position of the rotor tip in relation to the distributor housing for correct installation.
8. Remove the two distributor hold down bolts, then the distributor assembly. If the crankshaft is turned while the distributor is removed, the rotor to distributor alignment mark made during removal can no longer be used to correct time the distributor to the camshaft. The drive dog of the distributor is offset so as to allow only one installation position. Insert distributor and rotate rotor until drive dog falls into slot of camshaft.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
