Distributor: Service and Repair

Distributor (Typical) - Exploded View:

Removal
1. Disconnect distributor wiring harness connector, then using a screwdriver, remove distributor cap and position aside with wires attached.
2. Remove distributor rotor and observe position of shaft plate, armature and rotor locating holes for reference during installation.
3. Remove distributor hold-down bolt and clamp, then distributor assembly.

Installation
1. Position rotor locating holes in same location as when removed, then install distributor in engine maintaining same location of TFI-IV module to engine as when removed.
2. Install hold-down bolts and tighten so distributor can be barely rotated, then the rotor.
3. Connect wiring harness connector to distributor, then install cap and Torque screws to 27-23 inch lbs.
4. Check ignition timing and adjust if necessary, then Torque distributor hold-down bolts to specification.
