Test 1, Ignition Coil Secondary Voltage (Crank Mode)

Spark Tester:

1. Connect spark plug tester between ignition coil wire and ground. Crank engine. If spark is present, inspect distributor cap and rotor for damage or carbon tracking. If engine starts, refer to Test 2 under Secondary Circuit Tests. If engine does not start, proceed to Test 2, Ignition Coil Secondary Voltage (Run Mode).
2. If no spark is present, proceed as follows:
a. Check that resistance of coil wire is not greater than 7,000 ohms per foot. If resistance is greater than specified, replace wire.
b. Check ignition coil for damage or carbon tracking.
c. Crank engine to verify distributor rotation, then proceed to Test 4.
