^ IDLE - HIGHER THAN NORMAL - 5.0L & 5.0L H.O.

^ LAMP - MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT (MIL) - INTERMITTENTLY FLASHES - 5.0L & 5.0L H.O.

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1988-90 GRAND MARQUIS, MARK VII, TOWN CAR
ISSUE: An intermittent high idle or a MIL light that comes on may be caused by a. loose connection at the wiring to EVP (EGR), TPS, ACT, ISC, CP, Knock Sensor or injectors. The 10 way connector is located at the top rear of the intake manifold.

ACTION: Inspect the 10 way connector for loose connections and, if necessary, splice in a new terminal. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Identify the sensor causing the concern.



2. Locate the appropriate 10 way connector, Figure 1.

3. Remove the female terminals from the the connector that leads to the suspected sensor.

4. Carefully mate the female terminals to the proper male terminals.

a. Rotate the female terminal on the male terminal.

b. Check for looseness of the terminal connection.

5. If looseness is observed, replace the terminal with a new 2" pigtail terminal assembly or use one from a scrap harness.
NOTE: IF THE TERMINAL REPAIR IS MADE FROM A SCRAP HARNESS, REPEAT STEPS 1-5 TO ASSURE A RELIABLE FIX.

6. Reassemble the connector.
7. Splice terminal assembly into the wiring harness using a Dura-Seal butt splice connector (E6FZ-14488-A,B,C).

8. Check the circuit for proper operation.
