SAFETY BELTS-REAR-LONGER BELTS AVAILABLE OR LARGER PASSENGERS
FORD: 1988-89 CROWN VICTORIA
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1988-89 GRAND MARQUIS
ISSUE: The rear safety belts may not be long enough to fit around larger or robust passengers.
ACTION: Install safety belt extenders to add 9" to the length of the rear safety belts. If more than 9" are needed, install new service rear safety belt assemblies along with the safety belt extenders to add a total of 13" to the length of the safety belts. Refer to the following information for service details.
Refer to the safety belt extender/safety belt application chart below for the correct service parts. Use the appropriate model year Car Shop Manual, Section 41-50-5 and 41-50-6 for removal and installation instructions for the rear safety belt assemblies. Make sure to tighten the retaining bolts to a torque of 22-32 lb.ft. (30-43 N-m).
NOTE: IF THE REAR SAFETY BELTS ARE REPLACED, THROW AWAY THE OLD REAR SAFETY BELTS.
