Fuel Tank Purging




1. Drain fuel tank.
2. Remove the fuel tank, then the pump and sending unit. Refer to COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES.
3. Visually inspect the interior of the tank. Drain any remaining fuel.
4. Move the tank to a flushing area.
5. Fill the tank completely with tap water.
6. With the help of an assistant, agitate the tank vigorously and drain.

7. Add a fuel emulsifying agent to the tank, then refill with water.
NOTE: For the correct fuel emulsifying agent to water ratio, refer to emulsifying agent instructions.
8. Agitate the mixture for 10 minutes.
9. Drain the tank completely.
10. Refill the tank with water until it is overflowing.
11. Completely rinse out the remaining mixture, then empty the tank.

NOTE: If available, an explosion meter should be used to check for a negative reading, before performing required service work.
