Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

On 1994 models equipped with airbags, disable airbag system prior to performing service operation as possible airbag deployment may cause personal injury.


1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove steering wheel as described under STEERING SUSPENSION CHASSIS AND BODY COMPONENTS/STEERING/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/STEERING WHEEL.
2. Remove four retaining screws from steering column lower cover, then remove lower cover.
3. Remove steering column upper cover, then disconnect three multi-function switch electrical connectors.
4. Remove multi-function switch retaining screw, then pull electrical connectors from retaining brackets and remove switch.
5. Disconnect ignition switch electrical connector.
6. Remove three mounting screws, then the ignition switch.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
